One time Playboy magazine used my 28 Packard in a nude photo shoot. I don't remember how much they paid me and I didn't care.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
I've thought about renting my car out as well. I've considered starting an LLC and declaring the car as the only asset and myself as the sole soul responsible for operating and maintaining the car. I'd take out a corporate insurance policy to protect myself and the car. The policy would have to include liability insurance. I'd have the LLC rent out my services, and have the movie company pay my LLC as an IRS 1099 subcontractor. I don't have all the details ironed out, but this is the direction I'm leaning. LLC's have much more protection than an individual with a car.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
Thank you for all your words of wisdom. There is obviously more to consider than I first thought. As I see it the insurance factor is the highest priority. Thanks again, Wayne

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
I rented my 1930 Model A to a movie company for a street scene.
I received $350.00 for 5 hours. $50.00/hour over time. I stayed with the car and moved it if necessary. The picture is to be release late 2015 and is named “Papa" |

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
There were several folks here locally who placed their cars in one of the movies that came out a couple of years back - one fellow had a really nice Victoria that they sprayed with the cocoa dust or something similar - almost ruined the paint on his car and required subsequent detailing by two different refinishers before the car was returned to its almost previous state. I personally would not consider renting any of our cars to a production company unless it was expressly understood in advance that there was to be no dusting or similar sprays done to the car, AND I was allowed to stay with the car during the entire time that it was used by the production company - just to make certain. I figure that my time and the effort made to achieve an overall nice looking car are worth much more than a daily rental and running the risk of any resulting "collateral damage". I recall driving our roadster to a site to be used in a film back in the late 70's or early 80's - I never did get paid for that outing, although I am of the opinion that producers of today's films have more integrity and appreciation in general for these old cars. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
Staying with your vehicle is important. Murphy's Law dictates that when you leave for a short lunch break, that is the time the crew will decide to move your car on the set and create a gas tank fuel leak at the bracket by hard turning on the steering wheel.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
When we filmed "American Graffitti" they gave us 35.00 a day and all you could eat from the catering trucks. We thought we were in hog heaven. We were just excited to meet Opie (Ron Howard) as no one else was really a star. LOL

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
There is a discussion about this topic over at AACA right now. Many are saying this too. There are a couple of high rollers that negotiate really good contracts and are treated like royalty, but many ordinary enthusiasts are saying that the movie people abuse the cars.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
Watch the movie, "O' Brother Where Art Thou" and see how the Model A are treated. The scenes of Baby Face Nelson evading the cops and getting the car airborn and the cop cars hitting the cows comes to mind. Might make you think twice about renting out your cars for a movie.

Re: Rental rate for Model A movie car ?
And then there is the account (believe I read it here on Fordbarn) of the owner who rented his original paint A to a movie company and they repainted it without asking! Never again will that car be original!
