Operating Temp for an 'A'
I changed to a two blade fan this Winter after my four blade spit (cost issue at the time). The car has been running just over 190F in the Florida sun. What is the 'safe top temp' for the 'A'. I am not boiling over, but the temp climbs to just over 200F in traffic stop and go. I am thinking of going to a six blade plastic fan. I here the HP will increase and the cooling is better. Still, I like the original look. One more thing, I cannot seem to locate a neoprene seal for my leak-less water pump.

Re: Operating Temp for an 'A'
I run a two blade fan and my temp never gets above 180, in Georgia sun. Before I replaced the water pump, it would overheat. I always shut it down and let it cool if it exceeded 225, but I don't know if that's a safe redline or not and I never let it run continuous at that temp. It didn't seem to hurt my motor.

Re: Operating Temp for an 'A'
Read the thread four blade vs. two blade fan if you haven't already. It says the two blade is the most efficient, for what it's worth. If I read it here I pretty much trust it as having been thoroughly vetted after five additional posts.
As for a safe temp. range, Henry more or less felt under 212° at sea level (most of Florida) was fine. If I used a temp guage I would would be ok with 200° or less. I use a surge tank that is firewall mounted and if it gets hot my nose tells me. However, if the cooling system isn't clean, then don't try a bandage approach, use a radiator shop that knows Model A cooling systems. |
