Town Sedan Weight?

I am going to try to tow a Town Sedan on a rented car trailer with my Acura MDX. Does anyone know the approximate weight of a 1930 Town Sedan? Need to determine if I can pull that with this size vehicle. I will be towing from Nashville to the Atlanta area.

For the last 25 years,(northern California) you need a 3/4 ton truck or better to rent a car trailer.

Check your owners manual for your towing capacity. Add up the numbers Bruskie gives. What kind of trailer hitch do you have? What is its capacity and its own weight? Does your trailer have brakes? Do you have a trailer brake controller on the "tow vehicle"? Lights? Well you probably know all this.

Rich, I recently towed a 31 tudor from southern Illinois to Kennesaw. I drive a Ford F150 with a towing package and have an open car hauling trailer with brakes. Worked great. I don't believe an Accura would be suitable for the job.

As I remember your route (Nashville to Atlanta), you've got some mountains along the way. That said pulling a load which puts you close to one hundred percent of towing capacity isn't the best idea.

Rich, look at the rout very carefully. Monteagle is a very steep and long ascent and descent.

I highly recommend renting a truck (minimum 1500 series) with a trailer brake controller, and use a trailer with trailer brakes. Test the truck and trailer brakes thoroughly before you leave to pick up the car. Take no unnecessary risks. Make sure the tires are properly inflated on the truck and trailer. Make sure the trailer has a spare. Make sure your AAA membership is up to date, even if you rent the truck to make the trip.

I've got a Briggs Fordor and with my car hauler trailer it pulls easily with my F150. I don't know if you would want to do much smaller though. If its a one-time trip and you take it real easy, stay off of the interstates maybe it will be OK. Could be real hard on your transmission and brakes. One way to be sure, load it up and give it a test run.

It may cheaper and better to rent a van to haul it in Good Luck

Thanks for all the advice. I think it is best I do not try to do this with the Acura. I will look at renting a van that would fit the car. Another option is an old (1990) F150 that does have the trailer brake towing. Used every week for general farm chores, but I am a bit nervous about that long a trip. But at least you have all pointed out the folly of trying it with the SUV.

You might consider taking your A to a truck stop or feed mill and get the weight...
