Changing Stripe Color
Is it feasible to change, say a Straw stripe to a Hessian Blue stripe that has been painted on the body and gas tank? Or is this a job that would require sanding off the old stripe completely before adding the new color? Would one simply paint over the old stripe with the new color?
Thanks in advance for your reply. |

Re: Changing Stripe Color
Freehand is not an easy job for us amateurs ! I started and quickly realized it is a form of art. I hired a professional and he did a great job. I got 2 done at one time and he charged $175 for the Cabriolet and $125 for the pickup.

Re: Changing Stripe Color
The professional would carefully remove the old stripe with a rag and compound, then paint on the new stripe.

On the Straw colored 16" wheels, he'll run a body colored stripe on the outer rim, to sorta' "TIE" them in with the body color. I know it ain't original, BUT, I think it'll look GOOD! Bill W.

Re: Changing Stripe Color
I have removed old stripe with really fine wet sandpaper paper on a block, maybe three to four thousand grit, then compound, then restripe. I have seen stripe only several years old that I was able to remove with a razor blade, then compound. I suspect it was One Shot lettering enamel.

Re: Changing Stripe Color
One Shot is commonly used by stripers and will come off with lacquer thinner. It is just enamel
