rear bearing seal

Any "trick" to removing the rear hub bearing seals. I got the snap ring off. But seal seems problematic??????????

A good prybar and start pulling. They sure can be tight, and there is no way to save them. Some of the repro's needed to be sanded down on the outside, by using a belt sander. I don't know if they are still that way, or if the problem has been corrected. I haven't bought any new ones for a few years.

I am about to do perform the same tasks with the bearing and seals from my double A, and have been told to drop the drum from about 12 inches with bearing down onto a block of wood ..... the bearing weight will push the seal out, others here I am sure will follow with there methods.

Let us know if that method works. I've heard the same thing a few times, but every seal I've pulled would need the rear drum to be dropped from the peak of the house roof.

Also be sure to install the new seal just enough to get the snap ring in place. NOT too deep where it might bind on the bearing.

I agree with Tom. I've had to pry all the seals out from my AA hubs and doubt that they'd come out otherwise - A or AA.

I put the hub in a big vice and use a crowbar to pry them out. Aint easy or pretty, bu works.

And the new sseals still have to be sanded around the edges to get them to go in. The red or green "paint" has to be removed. A tiny bit of grease helps them to slide in easier. ken

It took a slide hammer to get mine out.

i make a little hole with an awl in the metal portion of the seal. then a small slide hammer with a sheet metal screw on the end.

I have a few "Tools and Tips". This is what I use and it can pull even the most stubborn seal in minutes. I took an old damaged axle shaft, and cut it off. This will give you something to pry against. Works great for me!
