Default fuel regulator

I have a 47 ford pickup with a flathead V8. I installed a carter electric fuel pump. Do I need a fuel regulator to reduce the pressure from 6 psi. It seems to run fine with no regulator. I live at 10,000 ft if that makes any difference. Jim
