Re: another what is it..
haha. its still pretty cool. was in the '41 Fordor i got from the junkyard. trying to get it freed up. maybe I'll use it on the farm. i need a fence.
i googled antique fence pullers/stretchers and dont see anything that looks like that. the 2 bottom legs fold out (if they were free) Last edited by CSArno; 02-04-2016 at 07:31 PM. Reason: add comment |

Re: another what is it..
I'm amazed it was is as good a shape as it is. Was buried on the floor boards of that 41 under a bunch of wet leaves. I'll hang it on the wall with the rest of the whatchamacallits, thingamajigs, and doohickeys..

Cool thingy - never saw one of those.
Anyone with an antique ford truck has gotta look up fence pullers.....

Re: another what is it..
It looks like the two legs come apart to make a 3 legged setup. It looks like it is configured for pulling rather than pushing, so more likely a rim contracting device rather than a spreader as such.

Re: another what is it..
If you wind it one way it pulls, and then wind it the other way it pushes. What a great bit of kit!

Re: another what is it..
For wheels with locking rings i assume.
Two on the outside of rim one in the slot pulling the ring out. |

Re: another what is it..
Check out the YouTube video. It actually collapses the whole split rim on a T to get the tire on
Enjoy the music.. https://youtu.be/j0PFSgAt06w |

Re: another what is it..
great movie, four old timers to change a tire! Hope they aren't getting paid by the hour. But that's how the rim jack is used,it is a bear of a job without it.Phil

Re: another what is it..
It is used on 26/7 Model T Ford 21" wheels to collapse the rim and also to stretch it back.

Re: another what is it..
I must be the exception. Have both, fence stretchers and a rim jack. Have used both. Many days growing up were spent fixing fence. Did not use a rim jack until a couple of years ago although we always had a rim jack. Much more fun to use a rim jack than fence stretchers. Rod
