Default What is the going price for a Model A rim?

In your area, what is the going price for a good Model A rim?

New ones in a catalog are $350 to $385.

Let's say the rims are in real good shape with minimal work ( approximately 95% sanding and 5% straightening spokes) to get them ready for painting.

1928 rim:

1929 rim:

1930-31 rim:

Thanks for your help on this.

$25 TO $50 for a "good - excellent" rim.

I agree with Vince , there's lots of junk Rims for less unless you get lucky. As you know 28/29 solid rims are hard to come by. I don't think you can use repro prices as a guide unless you want repro.

$100 each for a solid 30/31 and honestly more mighty be had for the 8/9's.
although the demand in my area for them is not as great
I have a nice set I would sell
Its like sheet metal. You are better off giving more to get the best you can than being a miser and have wheels that need a ton of work , and your end result and satisfaction will be better as well

I've been snagging them off of Craigslist for $25-$50 from the hot rod guys that are going
to different wheels. I even got one set of six powder coated and new Firestones for
$200 for everything. The 28/29's must be more money as a lot of them I've passed on
had cracks in the hub area.

I would say 25. each
so many out there because guys want 16's or flatty's for their rods

28-29 are much harder to find then the 19's
19's are everywhere.
I never pay more then 100. for 4-5 rims
some of the guys above are very fortunate to find buyers at 100. plus a rim
could never get that in NJ

I go with Doug. I would be hard pressed to get more than $50 on a good '28/29 rim at a swap meet and I wouldn't pay more than that if I needed one. E-28 rims, maybe up to $75 each if nice. I can't say for 19" but Vince is probably right on.

I have a shed full of 28-29 rims. I need room in my shed! The first one that comes (Danbury, CT) with a truck and $100 can have them all. PM if interested

The reason that I asked the question is twofold.

1. When pricing items that I hope to sell at a swap meet, I check what the Model A dealers are getting for reproductions. Many times this gives me a ballpark price and then I can check eBay and Fordbarn and Ahooga to see what comparable items are going for. When I saw $385 for a brand new reproduction rim I was taken back. How can a reproduction go for so much more than a near mint original?

2. Through the years I have collected a number of '28 rims. Now that A495 is restored and I have no need for any more, it is time to part with them. I hope to offer them on the swap part of Fordbarn and then take those spoken for to the MARC and MAFCA national meets. Thus I need a good, fair, solid price that I can offer them at.

Thank you all for the information. I hope that it has helped others who are looking and/or selling Model A rims. It certainly has been very helpful for me.

Hershey is full of very good rims for $25 to $40 dollars, No need to pay more. I bought a set of five freshly powder coated $250. Wayne
