Hand brake set up on juice brakes
Hey guys what have you used for the rear hand brake cable set up when converting to juice brakes? The later model 1940+ rear cable is much longer and would necessitate trimming and then replacing the factory made ends? Thanks for the help.

Re: Hand brake set up on juice brakes
How about cutting some out in the middle and then splicing it back together?

Re: Hand brake set up on juice brakes
you can buy a universal cut to fit cable from Autozone/Advanced Auto. Its about $10 I think.

Re: Hand brake set up on juice brakes
I used a Lokar cable kit with the stock e-brake handle.

Re: Hand brake set up on juice brakes
I cut the original cable in the middle and fabbed a set of connectors using a threaded end that fits into cross shaft end. Easy to adjust.

+1 for Klings kit. Easy to instal ,reliable. I assume you have 39-48 backing plates.

Re: Hand brake set up on juice brakes
I made a new connector rod from the hand brake handle threading through the center crossmember
...and used split cable on turnbuckles to adjust side to side |

I did nothing to the tranny setup but re-mount it into my '29 cabriolet's frame. I think the F150 conversion is originally from Miss Vicky (on Ford Barn), but am not certain. I bought a doner car for the running gear in order to speed my getting my cabriolet on the road sooner than later. I was comfortable with the modifications I "inherited" generally, but had to clean up a few details. The hand brake link was originally made from all-thread, and looked awful in my eyes. It can be seen in the photo above. |
