Hi,remove and repace the pop-out switch
Hi,
i broke off my model a ignition switch in the lock. I took my needle nose pliers and pulled out the stub of the key. I cant find the handle end of the key. I understand i will have to remove the lock in order to see the key code, a-xxxx. With the key code i think a locksmith can make a key. Would someone take me step-by-step on just how to remove the pop-out switch so i can see the key code. I would like to suggest all model a members copy there key code so just in case your key is lost, a easy replacement can be made. Thank you. Al |

Re: Hi,remove and repace the pop-out switch
The popout used with the oval switch has the number on the side of the cylinder. The later one has the numbers on the flat surounding the cylinder. If you can't find the pictures using the search feature, then I can repost them after I get home from a funeral for one of our members.

Disconnect your Battery, then unscrew the 4 screws on the gage panel. You should be able to pull it away from the tank to see your 4 numbers.

After the panel is loose you will then need to loosen the switch from the panel. With the switch out of the panel you can see the number.

Can't a locksmith make a key from the piece you pulled out?

Yes, in reply 7 you can see the number for the oval speedometer popout. For the round speedometer popout just look straight down alongside the tumbler cylinder. A flashlight and magnifying glass helps.

Re: Hi,remove and repace the pop-out switch
If you have the part that goes into the lock and all the cuts are there --like all of the key but the handle part a locksmith should be able to use the piece to make the key---even an experienced hardware store key person should be able to make a key---it is the same blank as most gas caps use.

Here's the number location for the popout with the removable rear cover, used with the round speedometer. |
