Brakes Dragging In Reverse.
Backed out of the driveway this morning and noticed what felt like the right front brake dragging. I say right because when I was backing out the steering wheel turned to the left. (Counter clockwise) The sedan has hydraulic brakes on it. And we just redid the front wheel cylinders. So i'm sure that has something to do with it.

Re: Brakes Dragging In Reverse.
Remove the drums and look for wet linings. I've been helping my friend with his 29 Stutz and have a heck of a time with the brakes. The rears are mouned vertical, and with the bleeder in the center, it's hard to get all the air out.
Just gotta love those mechanical brakes on the Model A. |

Re: Brakes Dragging In Reverse.
If I had it my way I'd put the mechanical brakes back on. But this was done before we bought the car so I just kind of have to deal with it. I guess I'll switch it back once it comes times to do a ground up resto again.

Re: Brakes Dragging In Reverse.
Make sure the push rod on the M/C has a little play to it, also how much drag on the front shoes. Do you know what year brakes (I assume early Ford) you have???

Re: Brakes Dragging In Reverse.
jcheshire31,
I had a hydraulic brake system on my car when I bought it. I have since replaced it with mechanical brakes including cast iron drums. They work great and won't be going back. Can be done without doing a ground up resto as that is how I did mine. Joe grobleski Cape Codder |

jcheshire31: Go to the EV8 forum and do a search for postings by richard lacey (lacy), he's a ford brake guru and has posted detailed adj procedures for the 2 diff styles of hyd brakes. Or, has your "opportunity" cleared itself up??
