Rebuilt Patina 1928 - 1930 Model A Generator and copper cutout, for SURVIVOR car
City:
Fredericksburg
State:
VIRGINIA
Price:
$225
I restore a lot of generators, normally making them like new inside and out as shown in one photo below. But this time I decided to rebuild one with a survivor car/truck in mind, keeping the original crusty appearance.
The armature was tested for opens, shorts and grounds. The commutator was put in the lathe, trued and polished. The windings were sealed with Glyptal. The field coils were removed, tested, rewrapped and rewired. It has new sealed ball bearings at both ends and new brushes and wiring. The original Ford cutout is the early style with tabs. These came with either zinc or copper plated covers, zinc being far more common. This is one of the rare copper plated versions. The cover spot welds were cut and the cover removed. It was cleaned, then the points were dressed and gapped. The air gap was checked and then it was set up with a power supply. The points closure voltage was set to 6.5 - 6.8 volts. It has been run on my test stand and puts out about 16 amps at 1700 RPM. It is currently set to about 4 amps for normal daytime driving. I can provide a video of it running on my test stand. Questions welcome. I can also rebuild a late style generator for you, either patina or painted. Price is $225 plus shipping & insurance. Steve |
