Default Uncle Max comes through once again

I decided to send the 97's on my '36 roadster to Uncle Max for a rebuild. It has been over 20 years since Tardel built the engine and the throttle shafts were showing some wear. The car also developed a small hesitation on acceleration. I packed them up and sent them off to Max around Christmas. A week or so later they arrived back at my door and I could not be more pleased. The carbs look and perform better than new and the '36 runs like a swiss watch once again. I just wanted to express my gratitude for the service that Max performs. He did what he said he was going to do, did it quicker than he said he would do it, and did it at a reasonable price. In my book that is exceptional service. Thank you Max!!! - Dennis

Hey Dennis,
Don't ya just hate all that cutting ? I have much empathy for your situation. Been there done that more than like to remember. I now know what the 'six million dollar man' must be like. Here's hoping that you heal well/soon..
What a great looking ride, wow, triple win...Max carbs; Tardel engine and a '36 vert !!

That's Max for you. Great parts, great service all around. Max goes the extra step to chromate his carbs for the original, correct finish. NO amateur clearcoating hijinks played in his shop!

Hey Dennis, can you post a pic of the other side of those Max 97's? I would like to know what you recommend for the coupling linkage. Before Max enlightened me, I bought some linkage out of Florida and I now am worrying about their longevity and fluidity of motion. I need a good set up for the 2 81's I got from Max for my '36 roadster.

Uncle Max is the best of the best when it comes to doing these Stromberg 97's. He is also a great person to do business with, period. I sent him an email or pm a few years ago listing a bunch of Stromberg parts that I needed. A few days later he called me saying go look on your front porch for your parts that have just been delivered. Sure enough that box of parts was sitting on my porch! Amazing service!! I have also heard tell, that without Uncle Max, the new English built 97's may never have actually happened.

PS...and on top of all those kudos....he drives a very cool '37 tudor slantback sedan!!!

It is noticed that when someone asks a carburetor question here or on the Hamb, Uncle Max never belittles the person or questions their ability. He simply offers help.

I prefer to make up what I can instead of picking it off the shelf. For the linkage I got some aluminum round stock, brass rod and aluminum flat stock and carved it up with my drillpress and cheap grinder with the thin blade. Took some time but, it was fun and cheap. It works fine and can be modified to fine adjust if needed. Pictures show the results.

Several years ago I sent a 97 to Uncle Max for repair. He sent it back all repaired and included a bill for the repair. How many places or people do you know that would repair some thing, send it back and then bill you. Uncle Max didn't know me from Adam other than I was a Ford Barn member.
