What make of car?

Hi guys, I have another question. Years ago, I saw a western movie that started out with an early 1900’s roadster driving along side a moving train. That car was wonderfully designed with the fenders sitting higher and the body and hood lower than usual. This thing was probably late teens or early twenties, and I think it might have been a Mercer. Does anybody know what I’m talking about?

I know it would help if I could remember the name of thr movie, but hey I’m doing good by remembering my own name.

Seems I remember a Bob Hope movie with an opening scene like that, but don't recall the name. Did your movie have the optical illusion of the spoked wheels turning backward? That's about all I remember of the movie!

There was also a weekly western spoof show (The Bearcat's ?) in the 70's that had a fake Stutz Bearcat. There might have been some train chase episodes in it too.

Yup, Bearcats! with Rod Taylor and Dennis Cole as two soldiers of fortune tooling around pre-WWI southwest, looking for adventure in their 1914 Stutz Bearcat. Not a lot of plot but a pretty good action show - too bad it lasted only one season (1971). George Barris built two of the Stutz replicas for the show.

One of the cars from that TV series was at a local car show here around 1977 I think. It was pretty crude, it had a 1960's Ford 6 cylinder and modern - ish pickup truck running gear.
