Default Correct paint color for engine parts

I am restoring a 1953 F100 Flathead V8 and according to Mac Van Pelt, engine should be the Lincoln Green which I purchased from Bill Hirsch, but the question I have is what color should the front motor support bracket, starter bracket and dust cover under the flywheel be?? I have been told that the engines were painted and then accessories such as breather tube, oil filler tube, oil filter canister and bracket and crankshaft pulley were painted black because they would have been added after the engine was painted during final assembly but not sure about these items?

I believe the color is the same as trucks for 52, Lincoln Mercury LIGHT Green. Main pulley and all those other parts you listed in black. But water pumps in engine color. Some people told me that the starter motors were actually the engine color but I wasn’t able to verify or I wasn’t as convinced about that. But it would make sense.

I would think that the starter motor would be black to facilitate assembly process.

Thanks ‘52 Flathead! Could you also tell me if starter and generator were all black?

I think this might require a little more research. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that '53 Ford pickups are kind of "odd ducks", with different engine mounts from the earlier models along with some other changes. Definitive information has to be out there somewhere.

^^^^Correct, 53 pickups/trucks did not use the 8RT water pumps. The bellhousing was a one year only affair with cast in ears for mounting to the crossmember.

Yes as I am finding they are odd ducks as stated! The bell housing does have ears for attaching the rear motor supports and the front motor support has a Bracket underneath the crankshaft pulley that attaches to frame! As far as color scheme, I guess it comes down to whether Ford would have painted these parts Lincoln green (engine color) or Black separately as they have to be attached after the block is attached to the transmission and this original transmission was black! Thanks for all the input!

At least you can be confident everything you see in this picture was green.

Yes I had seen that pic but those are earlier engines because ‘53 had a “split” bell housing with a sheet metal dust cover and starter bracket at the bottom below the flywheel and the bracket holding the engine to the conveyer in the picture is not the front motor mount bracket or at least on the ‘53! Thanks for posting that pic!

However after close examination of the picture you posted, I couldn’t see the forest for the trees, there are several engines hanging there with the split bell housing so looks like most of those engines are ‘53s! I was focused on the green one because mine was originally green and that one does look to be an earlier engine! Thanks again for posting that picture!

I don't see how they painted all those engines and there's not one drop of paint on the floor?

That would be wasteful---and Mr. Ford did not waste anything.
