Pickup headlight question
I have a question about pickup/AA headlights. Pickup headlight buckets were painted black verses nickel plated like passenger cars for 28/29 AA trucks and pickups. The question I have is: Are the 6 rivet heads painted black with the rest of the bucket or were they installed after the buckets were painted and thus left cad plated. Three of the 6 rivets I am referring to as shown in the picture below. Note the internal bracket ball is painted black in the picture which is not right (will mostly insulate the headlight, so the wiring may not work well), so the painted rivets are suspect for the headlight in the picture. I can't find the answer in the Judging Guideline's. Thanks for any helpful information.

Re: Pickup headlight question
Rusty, the buckets were dipped in black before the plated internal parts were assembled to them. The rivets were cad plated, you can see the cad plating on the rivets and other parts in this photo. The outside of the rivet doesn't show any sign of the cad plating at this point, just a little surface rust, no paint.

Re: Pickup headlight question
Dan,
Thanks for the help as always. You always come through on pickup questions. I probably should have emailed you directly about the question. I don't seem to get much help on Fordbarn anymore. It seems like many knowledgeable people have left or don't want to post responses. I kind of suspected the bucket was painted first before the other parts were installed, but wasn't sure. Thanks again for the help. Rusty Nelson |

Re: Pickup headlight question
I took a photo of one of my headlights I restored in the 70's, it's still in pretty decent shape.
