Re: Things Not To Do
I lost the breather cap on my '31 aa one time and oil was splashing out the filler tube. I stuffed a rag in the tube but didn't notice untill later that this caused oil to pour out the rear main due to the pressure inside the crankcase. Replaced the cap and the leaks stopped (almost....).

Re: Things Not To Do
If you have one of those safety fuse holders that is attached to the starter and the A is constantly blowing the fuses...........don't wrap a blown fuse with tin foil and put it back in the fuse holder so you can watch for smoke and sparks to find the short. Don't laugh! You had to be there.

Things Not To Do
Things not to do? I can think of another to add....If you can not take criticism...don't offer advice on this Forum.
Just kidding guys! (Well, maybe not always!) Have a good Day! |

Re: Things Not To Do
Make sure your arm is not resting on the spark wires when you reach across from the passenger side to operate the starter. Another good one, when removing the manifold of a car that has been sitting for 50 years do not assume the blockage in the engine ports is only rust.

Re: Things Not To Do
Why on earth would anybody buy two half bushes for the brake crossover bar if you can get proper round ones for a dollar and a bit cheaper.
Trust me there is a very good reason why halves are made available. Regards Chris Round ones going cheap, cheap |

Re: Things Not To Do
Forget to replace the timing pin. A lot of oil comes out of that little hole, and the fan helps spread it around.

In bear country, never hang your pack in a tree above where you are sleeping.

Re: Things Not To Do
NEVER start disassembling something to repair it until the replacement parts are IN HAND.
I have sometimes started a job when the UPS tracking Web site said "out for delivery". only to later find that the new part is not useable (or was not delivered), and the old part has already been destroyed during removal. Doug

Re: Things Not To Do
Doug in NJ made me think of another. 1. Always save your original parts 2. Always save your old parts you take off until you are satisfied with the way the new (repo) part works, fits, and looks.

Re: Things Not To Do
Wire cutters to snip the offending shorted wire is quick and easy, especially when the floorboards are in place. I'm working on a roadster and one of the things on the list is to install fuses so I won't have to list an electrical fire because of no fuses as "Things not to do"...... Glen

Re: Things Not To Do
Not use breaker bar on breaking nuts and bolts lose. That is with the bar lining up with your front teeth. At 15 years old. broke two teeth and knocked my self out. Good thing the nut came lose.
