Do you have good fuel flow to the carb?

I had a similar problem. I had a bit of crud lodged where the float needle seats in the carb. It would allow the bowl in the carb to slowly fill up when the car was off, but once you started it, the engine drained the bowl faster than it could fill up again, so the car would only run on the gas that was in the bowl and then die. Once the car died, the bowl slowly filled up again while I was scratching my head, and the car would start again for a short period of time.

My bet is a piece of crud in your needle. Remove the carb from the car, remove the one bolt on bottom that holds the thing together and inspect your needle and seat.

The EASIEST thing to check is to leave your gas cap loose in case you have a non-vented cap on it which would be ONE of the causes of your problem.

I had a similar problem with my old Ford tractor. It was a 6 volt conversion to 12 volt and had a 12 volt coil but without an external resistor. The coil would overheat and then the tractor stopped running. Does your coil overheat?

See if it will keep running if you pull the choke half way. If it does you may have a vacuum leak in the manifold. My doodlebug is acting up like that but it will keep running if I pull the choke or spray WD-40 in the carb. With mine I have a broken ear on the carb. mounting surface which wasn't noticeable at first. When it cooled off it would restart and run a few seconds then quit when it got hot.

the brass olive compression sleeve on the tube to the carb. could have been "seated" too far back and that allows the tubing to butt up against the carb casting and restrict flow. Seen this on numerous cars.
