Default spring on tudor inside door handle shaft

Does anyone have any tricks to installing new springs on the inside door handle rod on a Tudor? I can't seem to get the new spring over either end. I bought new springs from Berts and they are real strong. I am sure they will work fine if I can ever get them installed. Thanks in advance for any tips.

I think the repo springs are stronger and have thicker wire. It has been mentioned on here in the past.

I did install a repo spring on my drivers door but it was a real fight. I wish I had thought of cutting it down at the time. IF I ever have to remove that door panel again I will cut it down (or find an original).

If the latch has good strong springs, and the clamps aren't to tight, try the handle with out those PIA springs! I think I left them off(don't tell any judges). I think those little springs only keep the rod from rattling, you may need to bend the rod to keep tight against the latch

I finally got them on. Lots of new words for the grand kids to learn. I don't think that this was one of Henry's better patents. No rattle in the rods now so maybe it was worth it. Thanks for the replys.

Midgetracer, I'm in the same situation you were - trying to get repro springs on a '29 Tudor door rod. Mine are MAC's springs, but odds are they are made by the same company. Did you go at it from the end of the rod (if so, which end?), or try to 'spread' the spring around the rod at the hole?

Thanks!

I started at the end of the rod with the flattened end (door latch end)
