Default Painting Tinplate trains: not directly Model A related

Most of you guys know I play with trains a lot! I'm currently restoring a Lionel Blue Comet 263E. This is a high end engine of the mid 30's. I'm using original metal ,not repro parts. It has spent some time in the ocean or under the barn. Evapo-rust did a super job removing the rust, leaving some pits. This is a small job so the work is by hand. I have so far 2 coats of sandable prime on a test section with sanding in between using 600 grit paper. It appears another coat or two and I will have the pits filled. These pieces had lots of curves, corners and simulated rivets. A coat of bondo doesn't work. I have used Bondo on freight cars using a shortening razor blade as the spatula. Is there a better method?

You might want to try a glazing putty such as NAPA 6390 that is normally used to fill minute sanding scratches over your primer. It sands pretty easily and works well. I think it would be just the thing for the Blue Comet. We all seem to play with old cars and old trains. Good luck!
