Original thickness of 28-29 Cowl rubber pad?
Does anyone know what the original thickness of the reinforced cowl rubber pad was?
Thanks. Pluck |

Re: Original thickness of 28-29 Cowl rubber pad?
I had one original rubber cowl pad, but it was pretty worn. All the pads I have seen (a number of them) on original body blocks are about 3/16" thick. I would think the cowl pads would be the same.

I can take a picture of mine, but can't get a measuring instrument on it. I'd bet it's 1/8" though.

Re: Original thickness of 28-29 Cowl rubber pad?
Because they were used to mount the body and to align the doors as is done in restoration, I have seen thicknesses from 1/8" and 3/16" and have seen them stacked to a height of more than 1/4". They were made from the worn out belting used on the belt driven machines to power them and I would further assume they would have varying degrees of wear on them, making the thickness be inconsistent, even as originally installed. I have seen both single layers of the nylon reinforcement and multiple layers of reinforcement, probably as a result of multiple suppliers of the belting and the thickness.
