Radiator cover or stone guard
I'm not fond of how the stone guards mount and look but I was wondering if anyone has put similar materiel mesh or screen on the front of the radiator and under the radiator cover around the edges basically for looks and maybe a little protection?

Re: Radiator cover or stone guard
I'm not frantic about how they look either but wonder whether "hiding them" by painting them black like the radiator core would help.

Re: Radiator cover or stone guard
Billy: A lot of street rods run a "mesh" over the radiator fins, held on by "something" thru the core. Ck out speedway motors?

Re: Radiator cover or stone guard
At the Model A show at the Gilmore museum in September there were 3-4 cars with a screen over the radiator. It was a manufactured item I'm sure, not home made. As usual, I took no pictures of it but did look closely. They fit well and were full of bugs.

Wont stop damage from rocks/stones, but will keep bugs from clogging up your radiator. Some of the Model A vendors also sell this product |

Re: Radiator cover or stone guard
Looked at lots of pics on line of Model A's and 65% of them had the standard stone guards - so guess what I joined the club and bought one for my car - I want it to look right

Re: Radiator cover or stone guard
I rigged a mounting to the headlight bar. I found this was a "better" mount. I also like how the stone guard looks.

Re: Radiator cover or stone guard
Do the screens and stone guards have a negative effect on the air flow through the radiator? Looks like they would block some rocks and bugs but would also block, or divert, a lot of the airflow.

In many years of industrial ventilation we have seen the effect of screens of any kind across an air path.

Re: Radiator cover or stone guard
This is stainless steel shaker screen with a 1/4" rod surround and then polished. This car is 16 years old and has never overheated once!
