Default Luggage Rack Extender?

Hey All,

I'm looking to replace my luggage rack and mounting from being rear ended. I was wondering if anyone uses the extender brackets like pictured, part #A-1857-EXT? Tudor with rear tire mount.

Previously I had the 3/8" thick straight bars.

Regards
Bill

Mine just has a couple of straight bars. I don't think those extenders would work with where my spare is.

If you get the rear extenders you will need to lengthen them about 3" so that you can get the spare tie off w/o taking the trunk off. Found that out the hard way on the way to Tahoe. Otherwise everything comes off to pivot the rack down.

The extenders on my 29 Tudor with rear spare work ok. It's tight but the spare does come off even with the trunk on the rack.

I have those extenders I just placed on my coupe last week with my trunk rack. I have the chrome rack and the wood slats. I just don't like the look of it. I have a black rack I want to replace it with and I will be buying the parts for that. I will be selling these extensions and the rack. I commented on your facebook post as well.

I just looked at mine again. My trunk is shorter than a full-sized trunk which might explain why I have not had any problem with it. If it were taller, it might be more difficult to take the spare off and lift the additional height.

Something to keep in mind: a guy in our club had a trunk mounted on a rack with extenders on his car. He had the trunk loaded with tools, spare fluids, etc. and found that the steering got really squirrely - the load extended behind the rear wheels was lightening up the front wheels! (I've had that happen to me in an overloaded modern pickup.) He moved some of that weight to a toolbox between the front frame horns and problem solved. So especially if you use the extenders, be extra careful how you load the trunk.
