Default 1107 4 barrel intake for a 51 mercury

Hello got my 1107 Edelbrock 4 barrel intake in yesterday for my mercury but i have a dumb question they are 2 large holes toward the front i know 1 is for the oil fill tube but what is the second hole for for you guys that have installed one on a 8ba before thanks

It's for a "Road Draft Tube", a predecessor of the PCV valve. It is a two piece tube that snakes down in front of the engine and exits down by the pan rail to evacuate the gases inside the engine. The car should already have that assembly on the stock manifold.

Please be aware that the above pictures show a modern PCV valve plumbed into an 8BA style intake manifold. Although such setups usually work better than the original road draft tube systems, they are not original to these engines.

You can see the top curved piece of the road draft that inserts into the front of the intake manifold in photos below. I had mine chromed. OEM color is black. I shortened the oil fill tube you see tucked under the alum. rad hose. This is an 8BA/8CM with early style heads.
I am not using a PCV valve.
