huckster question
1928.
i have the frame and driveline completed and about to start on the body. the necessary stock body parts are at the sandblaster rite now. i have the plans from wagon works. i am using the sedan front A pillar and windshield opening. i have the front section of the subframe that goes from the A piller to just behind the front seat, from a sedan. what are your thoughts on using that section of the stock subframe and making original style front floor boards or should i run a wooden floor rails all the way up to the A piller? and if you have any pictures of that area if you used the ford subframe. thank you

Re: huckster question
Your seats maybe a problem getting the right height if you eliminate the section of stock subframe. The space behind the seat is open into the bed on mine. I don't know what seat is in mine. Was your seat a bench type? Mine has a floor pan under the seat, and a subframe.
Mine is a 31 indented firewall so it's apples and oranges, I noticed you said 1928 so ignore me. |

Re: huckster question
Here are pics of mine using Wagon Works plans. Per those plans, my 2 X 10 sitting on top of the frame rail goes all the way to the A pillar--no subframe. I do not have any original seats, nor the opportunity to 'test drive' another A, so I am making my own. The WW seat plans just don't appear to be that comfortable. These are from a Honda Civic, and I mocked them up using 2x4s for support until they felt comfortable. Now I am fabbing the steel supports. I have been building this car for about two years--learning a lot. Let me know if I can help

Re: huckster question
The 2 x 10 , 2 x 4 cross members, and roof slats are red oak. The rest of the superstructure is white ash, and the bed floor is southern yellow pine flooring. For 40 years I have saved every tree big enough to saw, and had the guys at the local high school tech center saw them on their Woodmizer. I think I have enough ash left to make the doors. The 2x10 in the photo is grubby looking from so many months of using it as a work bench while leaning in to the car's center. This huckster continues to be a real learning exercise.
