Screen popup
I keep getting irritable POP UP on the screen, that 1/2 covers the Avatars! Anyone else getting it? I haven't found a way to discombobulate it!!!

Re: Screen popup
Bill, that sounds to me like uninvited malware infecting your computer from a website. Hope you haven't been accepting any $6.5M funds transfers from Nigeria?
Seriously, if you have an anti-virus program, I reckon now is the time to run it. Also make sure it's up to date. Or get a 10 year old to do this for you. |

Re: Screen popup
It's malware. Firstly, run your anti-virus program. If that doesn't work, and if you have a PC, then restore to an earlier point. If that doesn't work, the describe your problem in four or five words and google that phrase. You will receive "hits" that describe your problem. DO NOT click on the hits that advertise how to get rid of your problem. Those "hits" will download their own anti-malware program and want to be paid for it. Instead, click on "hits" that are forums. Someone in that forum will describe a successful removal process that does not involve buying another anti-virus/anti-malware program. Remember that anti-malware programs have a "shelf-life" only lasting until the next and newest malware infection comes along. Good luck!

Re: Screen popup
You should look in "my computer" under the programs directory for a folder with the program name and if you find one delete it also. Be sure it is associated with the same program. It could reinstall itself.

Re: Screen popup
Sometimes you can click the top header to sort the programs by date of installation. Likely you'll find the offending program to be "new" (within a few days and matching one of those days when you went "exploring" the 'net.)
Malwarebytes my fave though. I don't keep it on my computer (many Malware have ways to "disable" on board protection programs) but take it on only when I get something my normal anti-malware can't seem to handle. A quick download, a quick scan with Malwarebytes almost ALWAYS brings my computer back. And if that doesn't work, one can do a "set-back" to a configuration when the computer DID work without the Malware. Control Panel -> Recovery -> Open System Restore -> Choose a different restore point. The computer will give you options for SEVERAL restore points going back possibly a month. Good luck with this. I hate it when miscreants (Including Microsoft/Windows 8) take charge of MY computer. Joe K
