Default 1954 Mercury underhood question

My 54 Monterey has a hood prop rod that holds the hood open. It looks like it has been there a long time. Did they come with those rods, or is this something someone added along the way??? Gives me alot of head room

No hood prop for a 54 mercury from the factory if it's the same as my 54 Ford. 54's had very poor hinges plus you may be missing some springs at the hinge. There are two, one a typical coil and a small flat coil type spring. on both sides.

There’s someone I found that remakes these hinges better than the weak originals. They are fairly expensive - around $500 per pair at the time. I put them on my Merc and they are good.

I’ll lookup the maker and post it when I get back from vacation in a few days.

Hood Hinge Restoration, Calif., Rowland Hall 818-845-3574. I got them early 2019. Don’t know if he restores them.
