Which Wheel Is this???
I had a set of wheels powder coated. I went to install the hub caps i bought from Snyders and they didn't fit. When I emailed Snyders they said perhaps my rims are 18's and not 19's?? Has anyone had issues with the Snyders 19
inch rim hub caps?? |

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
On the 18" (1932) the lug nuts are under the hubcap not exposed like on a Model A. Has someone reworked the opening? What is the diameter of the opening?

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
that is clearly a 19 inch wheel. You did not say how the hubcaps do not fit, i.e. too large to fit or too small. If they are just squeakingly too tight, I would suspect the powder coat is too thick along the inside diameter of the cap hole.

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
The hub caps are too small. Not sure if they would even fit if I bent the tabs.
I will go back to Tom at Snyders now that I am sure they are 19's and ask if anyone else has had an issue with the hub caps. The wheel opening appears 100% stock with no widening modificaions. Thank you!!! |

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
i bet you have 28-29 caps then
18" wheel's center is much bigger and the lug nuts are actually covered by the cap tk

If you are going to snyders in person, Take the wheel with you! They will find what you need.

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
Diagnostic step one in a case like this is to find someone local who can lend you an original cap (or even a repro cap that is known to fit his car) and test the fit on your wheel. Source of problem should then be apparent.

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
Just checked hub caps that I bought from Snyders a year or so ago. They fit snug and 3.75" is the diameter of hole where the hub cap goes. What's yours?

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
My 19" wheels are 3.75" also at the hub... the 21" 1928-29 wheels are 2 5/8 -2 3/4" at the hub caps.. not sure about 18" wheels.

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
Ok, went out to the garage and had another look.... the hub caps do fit but not tight. As recommended a few of the tabs will have to be bent to keep the caps in place. As I am going to sell this set of wheels I will let the new owner secure them to the wheels.
Thanks gents! |

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
a common cure for loose hubcaps, which are also common, is to put a small amount of RTV along the edge that contacts the wheel. When it dries, it will keep them from rattling and moving around. The tabs definitely will have to be bent. I've found 4 bent tabs and some RTV works well.

Re: Which Wheel Is this???
I remember somewhere in a parts catalog, I saw some rubber rings to go on the hubcaps. Sorry don't remember where but this would keep them tight.
