Seen this both ways assuming this will trap oil in a curve and not starve the pump. Never seen a pump starve for oil while running without one, My opinion just another waste. |

Re: Oil Pump Shield ?
The Service Bulletins state -do NOT install the oil pump shield unless the lowered tray is installed as well. The purpose of the shield is to provide a more uniform distribution of oil to all cyls.

The Shields I saw was around the bottom part of the oil pump half way. Please help me out how this was helping distributing oil around the cylinders. I cant see how thanks AL |

Re: Oil Pump Shield ?
The shields role in oil distribution is to have all oil pumped to make a trip across the dipper tray , oil flowing out the center cam bearing will be guided onto the dipper tray instead of being able to drool down the oil pump into the sump, splash from the dippers directed back to the tray ---it must have worked too good, even with lowering the dipper tray ---the next improvement was to put some holes at the sides of the dipper tray to drain back excess ---too much oil on the tray and a frothy oil vapor will be forced out the breather tube, too little and the dipper troughs at the end of the line may not have their full share
