Hello; a new guy,Working on some Ford 97s. Hopefully I can put some pictures here. Or how do I put picture here? there is a brass plug that comes out of the EE-1 base. But not on all of the bases ,have a plug. the fuel bowl has a notch to accommodate the plug. Question what does do? is it needed? When I bought these carbs, trying to get enough parts to a build good, there was a 97 look alike, that had 1 1/2 stamped on the side. What is that? I was hoping it was some rare carb, I could sell and retire.

The EE-1 is usually marked such and also with a Pxxxxx number which is Stromberg's part number which may be very hard to read.
Brass Plug ?? and a notched float bowl for clearance ?? would like to see photo.

Have you mis-labeled the middle casting skirts with a notch and the base with an extra brass nozzel in the ventura? If so the base is from a 97 made in Elmira, NY and not South Bend. Don't use the EE-1 with the extra nozzel with the South Bend 97 body

See the pictures, what I thought was a plug, is a vent to the idle circuit. this is on the bases thst are sculptured, the solid larger bases are different and do not have this extra vent. What are the years? thanks Howard

According to what Max Musgrove told me that bowl and base are the improved idle circuit assembly. If you mix and match these components with a regular EE-1 base or Venturi the carburetor will not operate correctly. If you would rather have the regular EE-1 base and carburetor body, I will gladly trade you as I have a customer that prefers that type of base and body.

A 7/16-20 heli-coil may fit, but it is incorrect. The correct thread is 7 /16-28 which is a non-standard thread that Ford used for their Stromberg carburetors. You best bet is to send your carburetor bowl to Max Musgrove for a proper inlet thread repair. Max has done this for many people including me.

I made my own inserts. I forget what thread I used, but I tapped the bowl out to fit. I used a fine thread bolt. I drilled and tapped the bolt with the correct tread for the seat fitting. The fitting still sealed on the housing as the insert was below the boss. I did not finish tap the bowls. I left some untapped length so the insert could not screw thru.
I did quite a few this way. Never a problem.
