black wall tires
I need to buy new tires for my 29 Special Coupe and do not want whitewall. Looking at different suppliers and there are not many to choose from. Coker and Lucas seem to be the ones that advertise in Hemmings. Any others that have quality tires?

ALL DEPENDS WHAT YOU CALL QUALITY TIRES............
price generally dictates quality. |

Re: black wall tires
I've had Universals on my '30 coupe for a few years and they seem fine.

Look into European Classic Tires. See ad in Restorer Magazine. Bert's sells them.

Are the original rims compatible with radials? What does Coker say about using them on original rims? I had heard that the rims were stiffened over the rims used on the old nylon/rayon bias ply tires of the 1960s when radials first come out on new cars...... |

Check with Speedway Motors. They sometimes have free shipping.

Re: black wall tires
Is there such a thing as radial tires that appear to be Goodyear or Firestone? Basically, I'm thinking of the exact exterior of an original tire Ford used that is actually in a radial configuration.

Re: black wall tires
Running universals on my Victoria. For the price of $150 a piece, they are nice tires.

Re: black wall tires
I have been running Universal tires with good results for many many years. Firestone tires will not fit into Model "A" fender wells.

Re: black wall tires
Such an incorrect statement - my new black wall Firestone fit just fine in a 28 well. I have never had a problem with any other previously owned Model A either,

I’ve heard lots of people complain about Firestones not fitting in their fender wells. Some say they have to let out some air to squeeze them in. I suppose it depends on the fender wells installed on the individual car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: black wall tires
Fact is that the Firestones have a bit bigger diameter and/or circumference.
