Default Zenith 1 caburator perfectly adjusted, needed

Hi colleges,

My 1929 Roadster Pickup is euipped with a partially repaired engine with retrofitted adjustable valves and a modernized rear main seal with kork/neoprene, original distributor and a new zenith cab (installed by previous owner). The engine runs well, has full power, high torque, idles relative smooth and does not use any oil.

There are only two issues not to classify the engine being perfect:1) it uses relative much fuel on long range rides at average speed of 40mph (12mil/gal), and 2) it stalls when stopping.

I understand the reason for 1 ( jet size, mostly too big) and 2 (fuel level inside bowl too low to feed idle jet during this moment)

My problem is, the garage where my Ford is parked (center of Vienna) does not allow repairs and eventual towing out is impossible and my mechanic is as buzy as I am.

My intension now is, to purchase a new zenith, which will be perfectly adjusted on a perfect running engine and then send to me. Does someone know a dealer/mechanic who provides such service.

It's not urgent, the vehicle works well, but not 100% perfect like I expect it.
Thanks for feedback
Cheers from Vienna
Albert

you are NOT going to be able to buy a carb off the shelf that will guarantee perfect adjustment.. Every carb like every engine is different. Try here on Ford Barn, the carboy.. Dick Hansen in Wisconsin, ,You will be VERY pleased. His will work pretty damn good out of the "box"

To start with, have YOU adjusted the carburetor? Twisting the Choke Rod to achieve the proper fuel mixture would go a long way towards improving the fuel mileage. Next, might it suggest that YOU take the time to learn how to adjust the float level. Take your time and study what you are doing during the process. The amount of resources available to a rookie Model-A owner is incredible now. Please consider taking advantage of those to learn how to repair your carburetor. You never know when your newly-found skills can be used by you to mentor another hobbyist in repairing their carb. too.

Thank you guys for the info. I need a second one, because I recently purchased a new renovated engine from Tim Schwanke as a complete bolt&drive spare power train for the day "x". I studied all manuals of the Zenit in the past days and learned the functionality of it and as soon as I will leave the hospital I will play with the GAV and adjust the Zenith to work properly on the idle jet and less with the throttle.

But the story with the bowl fuel level I will not touch, too much work ten time to remove the carb...

Once again, thank you for the hint, will contact this guy,

Cheers
Albert
