Reluctant to ask, but
My recently obtained 31 wooden cab/bed truck has steering problem which I'm trying to solve.
NOW I find my Allstate ww 6.00x16 tires won't register anything with a brand new tire air pressure gage. It works fine on my other newer cars. The tires look totally filled??? I'm getting whipped when I can't even check tire pressure. Once again, any help would be appreciated. Rip |

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
Can't help with the steering issue but maybe the valve core in the stem is sitting lower and the plunger in the gauge does not reach it to push it down to allow air into the gauge. No suggestion on how to fix except try a different gauge.

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
I too would try a different gauge. But, I'd also remove the valves and make sure they are working and not corroded. They turn right out and any parts store will have the little tool.

A good description of the steering adjustments can be seen on www.modelabasics.com and the Les Andrews books if you're needing adjustments to the steering box.

Dad used to keep one of the little valve stem tools on his key-ring. Here's something similar at Ebay. You can't argue the price. Joe K

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
I've seen several of the "Made in China" inflator tools that either don't work at all or let the air in very slowly.
Lots of junk comes from that part of the world. |

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
Agree. Picked wrong forum for air gage. Sorry. Thanks for that eBay thing and to all other suggestions.

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
Some air chucks/gauges have a push down goodie, with a screw driver slot in it. I "wonder" if it could be adjusted, to push down on the tire valve, better???

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
I wonder if I could cut off the top of a plastic valve stem cover and slip small diameter rod inside. Hopefully it would operate stem valve and air gage. What u think?
Ps I could not find the gizmo on eBay another guy suggested. |

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
Why not just buy a good quality digital tire pressure gauge

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
Have you tried replacing the valve core that is inside of the valve stem? I have read they have long and short cores but don't know much about them. That might be the cheap fix.

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
I ground some material off my gage to allow it to seat down further. works fine.

Removed and all fine. Now have handful of Gage's 🤔 |

Re: Reluctant to ask, but
I ground about 1/32 off the end of my gage so it seats better. Works great.
