Default Memorial Day 2015

Thanks to all who served and those who supported them.
I'm off this morning in my 1930 Model A with Chaplain Jim Warrington, WWII, Vietnam, to join the Memorial Day parade in Washington, DC.

This photo is what Memorial Day truly means to me. I would love to be able to visit the Wall and reunite with friends with their names etched on the Wall.

I was able to visit the Wall just before I retired while getting treatment at Walter Reed. It was a moving experience like no other. Took a couple of hours finding the names of those I served with that never came home, to include some close classmates.

There is no other monument in DC that captures that special feeling, the design is breathtaking.

I don't look today as my day like so many do, we have Veterans Day for all of us that came back and continue living a life, Memorial Day is just that, to remember those who served and died while in uniform.

I do remember them.............

Spent the day at the cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands where my father and a distant cousin are buried. With a group whose fathers are also buried here. Plan to go to Henri-Chapelle and Normandy to visit graves of other distant cousins.

Tear ducts have been active.

My experience with the Dutch gratitude was second to none. Kids are taught in school about the sacrifices made.

The Dutch have done the same for all allied cemeteries in Holland and still today.

I went to two Memorial Day ceremonies with my 31 Pick up today. There was a fresh restored roadster pick up at the second one. I hope to see more of it. Navy 68-72

Vicky,
I was working for AFCEA when that stunning painting was first displayed at one of our International Conventions. It is such a thought provoking work. I hadn't seen it in years. Thanks for posting

I just discovered this Memorial Day posting and I too participated in the holiday services. It is close to my heart as I lost several buddies in Europe in WW II and they are buried near where they fell.
