Default Rear Fenders?

Can not line up the rear fender top bolt hole to the apron on the right side. The left side is good. Look at each fender left side and right, you will see the difference. They line up in the front, but the right fender passes the left about a half inch, now look at the bolt flange, the left has a round edge, the right is straight. The car is a 29 coupe, could one fender be a 28?

The rounded bolt flange is a '28 to early '29. the straight mounting flange is a 1929. The only reason I can think of that thye don't match is that someone has done work on right fender and didn't get it back to the right shape.

Saw a '30 or '31 Coupe, with '28 or '29 fenders & splash shields.---"Did they fit OK"?---"I don't know, it was that way when I bought it". It was a VERY NICE Coupe, NOT Hot Rodded.

I didn't see any weld marks on the fender when it was sanded on the other side.

yes, but the right fender imperfection to the apron was covered by the fender welt.

When standing side by side, are they the same height? If the right side is a tad shorter height wise then when it is mounted it may be squeezed and arched more to line up height and length wise to the left side.

The mark of a TRUE CRAFTSMAN is to be able to cover up their MISTAKES, un-detected How about using SHINY BLACK Plastic Electrical Tape???

The car was previously mostly put together with numerous mistakes, that's why it was stripped to the bone, no more un-detected or detected imperfections permitted. The Dog will not bury this bone.

There are a lot of possibilities here.

The change from one style bolt flange to another would not likely have happened all at once, likely there was a transition period where it was mix and match with cars getting either design, or both, at random.

There were aftermarket fenders available in the 1930's, and like today's reproductions some were good, some OK, and some ***censored***.

Body shops back in the early days were trained to repair rather than replace, and often the "cheap" shops did not get things right and would modify everything to fit to each other though it would not fit to anything original. (The "bad" fender may be shaped to fit a "bad" body.)

If there are too many things "not correct" you might consider that car going to someone else to enjoy as a touring class and spending the effort to find a more correct car that you can enjoy restoring to your standards.

The fenders(front and rear) are not real "structural" until they are bolted too the car with the braces and running boards. IF someone stood or sat on the
fender when it was OFF THE CAR, that very well could be the problem with the
right rear fender. Fix the problem with the fender..

My 29 tudor had the rounded flange on one side and straight on the other, but both fenders fit fine. So I am guessing that the one that won't fit is messed up somehow. It should be possible to massage it back into shape.
