Green, Most venders have it in a spray can.

Most also have it in a brush on quart. I prefer the brush on to the spray can. You should get a copy of the judging standards from the national clubs (MAFCA and MARC use the same standards) because there a lot of things that attach to an engine. Some are black (usually stampings, generator, starter) some are plated or unfinished (exhaust manifold) and some are the same green as the engine (water pump).

Which part of the engine? The general rule is cast parts are green and stamped parts are black.

I know this is a long way from a perfect paint job, But it look's better then it did, I was not going to pull the eng. to do it right. Most of my time was spent wiping the eng. down with lac. thinner and masking everthing that I could, I used a lot of tin foil for the hard to get places and a lot of masking tape and paper, Maybe 2hr's to prep it, old sheets on the fenders etc.
I used the ford eng. green in a spray can from a vender, and used some black rustolem [SP] in a paint can [brush on] for the accy's, from home-depot.
I did not remove anything from the eng.
This was done aprox. three years ago, and is about time to do it agin [looking a little thin]. Thank's for looking .

If you use more than one can of Ford engine green make sure it's from the same vendor. There are a couple different shades of green out there. I found it out when I ran out, bought another can and painted the head before installing it. Once installed I could see the variation.

There is also variation between the spray and cans of the same vendor. I had to remove the head (gasket change) so I sprayed it and then when I put it back on it put the rest of the engine to shame so I spent about and hour and cleaned as much of the block as I could reasonably get to (removed carb and water inlet pipe) and then used the brush on paint since its thicker and I didn't want to try and mask everything to spray the thinner paint. Well you can see that one is a bluer green than the other. Not bad but its a little different. Still a lot better than it used to look.

If you are spraying the engine if you use alluminum foil to mask off items not to be painted, it works better than tape.

GOOD TIP!

I buy spray cans of engine enamel from Little Dearborn and I like the color and quality of the paint. I used to buy quart cans and brush it on, but a few years ago I decided to try the spray can, and it is so much easier and better than brushing that I wouldn't go back to brushing. I think they quit selling the quart cans, as the demand was so low for them.
