Tie rod end and spindle arms
Getting ready to replace my spindle arms and install better ones. I was wondering, the end of the tie rod has the round hole to accept the spindle arm ball and then there is a slot next to the hole. What is that slot for, I wouldn't think the ball shaft is supposed to be in that slot as the arm wouldn't be able to move freely. Also it says in the manuals to compress the spring 25%, any good way to judge that like the normal location for the end plug usually flush with the end of the tie rod? Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure the arms move freely but not to freely where they fall out of the tie rod. Thanks guys for your expert help.

Re: Tie rod end and spindle arms
If you measure the springs to determine the length at rest, then cinch them up in a vise to compress them 25% you'll get a good idea of how much tension the end plug will be placing on the spring when you tighten the plug end in. Just screw the plug in till it just touches, the tighten to 25% compression. If you are still worried, try and pry them off once installed. They won't move!

Re: Tie rod end and spindle arms
If your springs are in good order, once the end plug is wound in sufficiently to engage the cotter pin, you will have the correct spring tension.
