Default Jazz Age '28 Sport Coupe on Hemmings Auction

It's a really good-looking Sports Coupe, with a lot of extras added.
But, where's the gas tank?

Looks like they put a gas tank in the trunk.

At the 57s point of their Youtube video:

That's a lot of money for such a heavily modified "A"

Sorry, other than a nice looking undercarriage, it is too messed up for me.

Ummm, not really. People buy 'shine', ...and the people that will praise this car is a younger and middle-age onlooker who typically have money, -or have access to money. The typical older experienced Model-Aer will criticize it for its lack of authenticity.

Like others, this car really isn't for me either, but IMO, bolt a set of 16" Kelseys on it and it would be accepted at a NSRA meet or a MAFCA meet with open arms.

I tend to agree that this car is over done. My '30 town sedan is restored to original but I never get the prize. It usually goes to the guy driving a car that is heavily modified but looks original. Maybe that's because his car is shiny silver.

The car is immaculate. The best place for it is in a climate controlled museum. I would be afraid to drive it around the block.

Putting the fuel tank in that trunk may pass the functional test but it leaves the car very vulnerable in the event of a rear end collision. The Pinto was safer than that set up.

Yes, I was thinking about how our gas tanks are safely in the middle of the car, protected from collision.

Putting the fuel tank behind the rear bumper ensures that you lose your back hair and your mullet in a collision. So much better than losing your leg and chest hair and eyebrows in a collision in a stock Model A. You can still look manly in your coffin without back hair, not so much without chest hair or eyebrows.

That car looks like it was restored by Rip Taylor. No offense to the Rip Taylor fans.

While I understand your point, consider how many 32 - 34 Fords are running around with unprotected tanks behind the body. Surely most would agree that the rear bumper on those too is merely a 'suggestion' for protecting its fuel tank.

When the Mustang was released here a very few years ago, it scored only 2 out of 5 stars safety rating. One of its downfalls I am told is the weak rear end which leaves the fuel tank vulnerable(no one can put a tow bar on it - too weak). I am sure the pinto was never sold here. I wonder if the Mustang shouldn't be the same.

Side tanks are available that fit under the splash aprons, but they cannot be used with the stock mechanical brake system because the brake rods get in the way.

I would be so afraid to even drive that car. If it isn't leaking something is wrong. and it looked like it could have been a RHD car with that hole on the firewall by the air filter... And really Tan/Taupe for the engine?

I had a buddy in high school who was into Model T. We had a friendly rivalry about whether it was better than a Model A. One time he said the A gas tank could blow up in my face. I replied, "Yeah, well the T tank could explode and blow off your butt!"

Car just sold for $47k plus 5% buyer's fee, so $49,350 total. I thought the price was high at $26k, $50k is absolutely absurd. I guess there is plenty of money to be made in restoring these cars after all lol

So if someone offered you $50k or twice it's value for your car, you'd turn it down?

The seller, or person that funded the restoration lost money on this deal. No money was made on the restoration.

I would take $50k in a heartbeat, wouldn't have to think about it. I paid $6.5k for mine and have spent several hundred hours getting it running right. I can't imagine that I have anymore than $2k in parts in it.

Only thing I can't do is paint. But even paying someone to put a fresh paint job on mine, I'd still be well into the green on that deal.

If you're paying a shop to restore, yea you'd lose money. But, if you can find an older restoration for less than $15k and do your own work, you'll turn a profit selling it at that price
