Default January 1928 Engine

I thought something was wrong with the engine number I was looking at. It was A11005. so I looked it up anyway and found it to be a January 1928 engine. I did not realize numbers started with A1. Is there more value to an early engine like this?

The numbers do not start with A1, They start with A, 11005 is the number!

I believe that Bart meant he wasn't aware that the first Model A engine number was number A1, which it was. However, engine A1 wasn't the first one sent to the assembly line so technically the first Model A to roll off the line was not number A1. Steve Ciccalone knows way more about this stuff that I ever will, so maybe he will follow up on this, but I believe that engine number A1 wasn't released to the assembly line for several days or weeks after production started.

Having said that, Ron in Quincy asks a valid question as to whether that number has the star on both ends because it could possibly be *A11005_* where the last digit and ending star are no longer visible. Might be worth a second look...

IF it is *A11005*, then it is a January 19, 1928 production engine (10994-11557) and the engine number pad should be 2-3/4 inches long.

IF there are more "unreadable" numbers after that, then it is a February 23, 1929 production engine (A1096779-1101382) and the engine number pad should be 3-1/4 inches long.

Engine A1 wasn't released to assembly until Nov 1, 1927.

Well checked again and it must be a restamp, no stars anywhere. But the cylinders look great, no ridge at the top. It looks to be a good engine.
