Model A Engine Installation
Advice Needed !!
I have both the engine and transmission out of my '31 Victoria. My question is what is the better way for installation: 1. Engine and transmission as a unit? 2. Shouldn't the flywheel housing be attached to the engine and installed as a unit?

If you put the engine and transmission in as a unit, you have to get the torque tube shaft lined up with the universal joint for them to go together. DON"T be tempted to use your fingers to do it. When they slip together, you could lose them.

Can you offer some step-by-step details? When you say "engine," does that mean the flywheel, clutch plate and flywheel housing attached? Can you even attach the tranny before dropping it in? Assembly problems? Thank you! Larry

Yes, the flywheel and flywheel housing must be installed if the engine is installed after the tranny. Be sure to set the fingers on the pressure plate while it's out, and use a clutch alignment tool to make sure the disc is centered. If the alignment tool wasn't available I've used my fingers to center the disc by going around the outer edge, and this has also worked fine for me.

This is how I did it on my huckster and it worked great. But like mentioned, look out for your fingers when putting in the u-joint.

thats the way i would do it with the body off. one thing to look out for is the u-joint housing gaskets dont slide out of place. put a couple temporary bolts in the holes while mating things together

I always assemble everything back to. and including, the U joint, and install it all together. Get a friend to help guide it. Also you may need a frame spreader.
