Re: leaning 30 pickup
Loosen both the front and rear the spring u bolts, then stand right running board and attempt to get the car to lean towards the right, then tighten the spring u bolts.

Re: leaning 30 pickup
You can also consider adding some kind of shim under the springs where it mounts to the frame on the left side. If you do as Broken says, tighten the bolts on the right side first.

Re: leaning 30 pickup
I would also inspect the springs for a broken leaf. The spring center point is the center bolt that holds the spring pack together.
Use that bolt to center the springs as a visible reference point. |

You can’t go wrong with new springs. Think of your TV chair! What would it be like after 90 plus years of your fat ??? setting in it? Enjoy. |

Re: leaning 30 pickup
One thing to check first. Check to see if the square headed center bolt on the rear springs is seated into the square opening on the crossmember. If it is not seated in the crossmember, loosen the U bolts holding the springs and rock the car until you hear it seat.

Re: leaning 30 pickup
We have a mix of LHD and RHD cars in England . The LHD cars lean to the left . The RHD cars lean to the right . Many years of driver only causes this . The rear spring is the main culprit . I rotate the rear spring 180 degrees and lean cured . Trying to reduce lean by manipulating the clamp is a band aid . Over many years of driver only can also set the frame down slightly on the drivers side . The right frame rail on my 1930 68B cabriolet was so affected . A 20 ton bottle jack ,chain and railway sleeper cured that .

Re: leaning 30 pickup
Thanks to all who replied to my question. I think I am going to take the "easy fix" first; if that doesn't produce the desired result, I will remove both front and rear springs, disassemble, clean and lubricate - which I should have done in the first place. Thanks again.

Re: leaning 30 pickup
If it is the spring due to the weight of the driver then take apart the springs and rotate every other leaf 180 degrees.

Re: leaning 30 pickup
On my 31 CCPU it was the rear spring causing the leaning problem. Fixed it with a small piece of 1/8" thick rubber pad placed on the top of the spring above the clamp holding the spring in the cross member.
Not the correct way to fix it for some people but she's been sitting level for 15 years now trouble-free |
