hi float
bug etching is engraving the appropriate trademark into the glass using a chemical and stencil. here are some examples of available bugs. the JS book goes over whats proper and where for a particular car// year.
the kits are available through eBay, Michael is the main supplier of these and is on the ford barn also.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/351273393165

thanks for asking

Mike Driskell is a close friend of Roy Nacewicz, -which is probably where the logo-ing kit came from.

As far as the actual process, we have likely done it several hundred times over the years. Here is my way. I think this is a product of practice makes perfect, so use some scrap glass to practice on. The glass must be extremely clean. Soak the template thoroughly in water and apply to the glass and let it almost completely dry. As long as it is a little damp, it stays adhered to the glass. Apply the acid and count to 10 before flooding the glass to dilute the acid. Wipe clean. If the glass is a tad fuzzy in that area, use some fine rubbing compound to polish the area.

Vermins' "BUGS" are in ALL kinds of GOOFY locations, even the 1/4 window locations DON'T match up. Somewhere, 1 is UPSIDE DOWN. "THEY" shouldn't sell the stencil kits, WITHOUT a BREATHALIZER TEST!
"Maybe" the UNIQUENESS makes Vermin worth MORE??
Whoever painted him, must have NOT made himself bolt the spare tire holder to the new body paint. He carefully crafted a 1/8" thick, RED RUBBER gasket, to go behind the rack! I LIKE IT!! The cowl is also shimmed with the same RED RUBBER. The body has been sectioned, right across the sill plate, I DON'T know if Vermin got a NEW ass end or a NEW front end??

When purchasing replacement glass from some of the Model A vendors ( Macs ) you can pay an extra fee and have the glass etched when it is sent to you. Usually local glass companies don't offer this luxury! Wayne

Hi Mitch:

Libby says it's too hard to measure while were driving and that I should measure it When we get home.

This is the position of a July 1936 Ford replacement window installed in a 1928 Tudor.

I'm not sure if this will help you but it might help someone else in the future.

Jeff

Mitch, you do realize that originally the "bug" was in the plastic that was laminated --and not etched into the glass itself. From originals I have seen, they were very near the edge but we're not exact in location.

no i did not know that interesting and as far as location i'll just put it where it looks good on the lower r/s corner.. i thought for sure someone would have an exact location, but maybe it was like engine stamps a little this way or that way.
thanks Brent

Now you see I would have thought that they would have made large sheets and "cut out" the windows from that. I never would have guessed they started with glass and plastic cut to size then assembled and then heat sealed.
