Default Rear axlehousings

On page 4-10 of the JS, the early version of the housings have a weld seam along the middle of the housing. It does not state if they are sided, ie if the weld is on the front or rear depending on the side. I mean were the welds on the front of both sides or would the weld be on the front of one side, and then the rear of the other. The housings I have that are middle seams, are all facing the same way and I just want to know if there are others that would face the opposite way if fitted to the same side of the car.

Functionally speaking, there is no difference in which direction the weld seam points.

In terms of 'correctness', the weld seams should point toward the center of the car. (Or straight down if you have that version) This means that there is a 'left' and 'right' housing, they're just perfectly symmetrical except for the weld seam.

My late 31’s axle housing have the welded seam up, one of the housing welds was warn thru and my welder put a bead of weld that looks original

Thanks, this means I have a few early L/H housings, and no R/H ones. I also have plenty of the later housings with the seam up. This was just a curiosity about the parts I have.
