Where to buy custom battery cables
I need to buy some custom length battery cables. Anybody know of someone who makes these? I plan to use 00 cables about 5 feet long. Thanks, Royal

Any good welding supply shop will make them as well.

Re: Where to buy custom battery cables
Using the 00 on a Semi, good for 145A load? You may want to think of #2 for 6V, good for 95A. Especially when you see the diameter of the cable. NAPA does do a fairly good job but I like to do it myself and solder the connectors, after crimping and before insulating. They just crimp the connectors, which is a good start.

Re: Where to buy custom battery cables
So far, I have struck out with NAPA. My store doesn't make them up but will sell me the parts for $112!! Haven't tried Fastenal yet. Waytek has good prices but you must buy large quantities.
I'll keep looking. I have read on the Barn many times to use 00 gage cable, but others are saying that is overkill. Recalculating. |

You could try an equipment repair place. They may have all the tools and supplies needed to do the job.

Re: Where to buy custom battery cables
My local NAPA doesn’t make them so I bought the cable, ends and heat shrink from them and made my own. I soldered the ends with a hardware store propane torch. Easily done. I recycled a red battery cable. Not original looking but good enough for my F1.

Re: Where to buy custom battery cables
Looks good. I don't think the battery disconnect you have installed is rated anywhere close to the amps that your cables can handle. Those type disconnects cause lots of trouble.

Re: Where to buy custom battery cables
I will back up don-wi about those green knob dissconnects, even on modern cars they get towed in with them melted --or for "no start" ---most are made of "pot metal" colored to look like brass
I you have a favorite junkyard and it has some mid 90s S class Mercedes they have a good sized battery cable that is easy to pull (pass toe board to trunk) If you are looking at "pre made" cables take a magnet with you, many of the factory crimped ends are made of steel ---they get bad internal connections quickly Cables that are crimped and soldered are best for long term use |
