Whatisit?
Have a NOS block, dunno what, I am going to get the light rust boiled off, code says 4 bolt main but not seeing that. Know flatheads & learning 289’s but not these things. Ideas?

Re: Whatisit?
Even blown up I can’t seem to read the numbers on a tablet. But a 4 bolt main is usually pretty obvious looking at the block

Re: Whatisit?
Fresh views, pulled it out of a semi trailer Wednesday, dealership cleaned out in ‘79, suppose I should get it cleaned even though I am not going to use it.

Re: Whatisit?
If a person plays around with this stuff long enough, they can looks at those numbers and tell a lot about what it was meant to fit. With Ford's first digit being a decade code and the second being a year of change code then they just have to know what the other numbers mean. The 335 series engines were basically the 351 C and the 400. The 400 changed the family, ie 351M, early on and the oil embargo in the early 70s slowly killed them off.

Re: Whatisit?
Thank you very much. Would it be good to get it cleaned up or put it out there as is? Don’t believe I will get into this, got too many flatheads

Quote:
The BLOCK CASTING ID NO. will be the same for a 2-bolt main or 4-bolt main. The 4-bolt main block was subjected to a different machining protocol. That would give it a different ENGINEERING PN. Find a 351C FORUM and advertise it there. I wish I were still young as these things would run. I had one in a 73 RANCHERO (351CJ) and it would fly and it was a smog motor with a 4300D CARB on it. Perfect swap for a '57.
