Default No spark

changed the ignition switch, the points do open, the Distributor gets very HOT. I was told that when I connected the ignition switch cable to the distributor, I should not have turned the cable all the way into the distributor. The starter switch safety fuse blew 4 times. The distributor, points, condenser and terminal block are new.

hmm more details are needed:

changed ign switch to what style? why was it changed?
define distributor gets hot. (like electrically or physically?)
yes you should only screw the cable in a few turns and NOT all the way.

did the fuse blow immediately after replacing with ign switch off or blow only when switch is turned on?

Was a pop out switch, was always on even in off position. Mistake-
coil gets very hot, not Distributor. I believe fuse blew when switch was on.

May want to check your "new ignition switch, some are just to long/big, when you screw the dash on you can ground out the connections on the switch to the tank.
Unscrew the dash panel and just let it hang down and see what happens.

Disconnect the fuse or battery, as the coil can be ruined in as little as 30 minutes if it's full time on. Since it gets hot, you know you have a short to ground somewhere between the coil + terminal and distributor. As burner31 said, some of the repro switches hit the gas tank and short out. It happened to me, and I had to bend the switch terminal to the side for better clearance. Also, as SeaSlugs mentioned, don't screw the cable in too far. Two (or three at the most) turns is all that's needed.

Also make sure the lower plate wire and terminal don't touch ground.
