Not sure I completely understand your problem - a picture would help. Try putting a thin stainless washer/spacer at the radiator end of the hood shaft/rod (on the rod) where the rod enters the front hold-down bracket. The washer sits between the hold-down bracket and the first hood panel hinge and will move the hood panels back. I had to do this modification last weekend because the edge of the hood panels were hitting the tail of my quail. One member in our club uses a slice cut out of stainless steel tubing.
