George,

You should definitely keep grandpas car as long as you feel up to restoring it.

Just remember that with a car which seems to preserve a lot of its originality, there's a great responsibility resting on you to document the car before you tear it apart.

Please get a good digital camera and take hundreds of pictures both overview and closeup of any detail. No detail is to small. What type of screw is used in each place? Square head or hex head nuts? What seems to be the original finish of every little part ? Are any of the original fabrics still there? Get close up shots of weave pattern and colors of any seemingly original fabric

Then, please share your photos. For example, offer them to Bob Johnson to put on his Modelahouse site.


There are not many untouched cars out there anymore, hence we have to reap the information we can from those that are left.
