If for whatever reason your magneto needs work, it can be charged with the engine in place in the car, but at best you will get it up to maybe 75% of full charge. To effect any repairs to the components, or to charge the magnets to 100% of their capacity, the engine needs to be removed, and the oil pan and transmission taken off to get at the magneto magnets and coil ring. Mostly labor involved here, some parts, all depends on the problem with the magneto.

I can do all of this for you, I live in Burlington, IL. But I charge $60/hour, just so you know.
