Here's what I'm thinking, for:
- A trailer queen concourse type car that will be rarely driven, yes l, I'd pay the price for the machine shop cost to rebuild it to keep the original part.
- A daily driver or weekend car you're taking everywhere, I'd go with a replacement part. I wouldn't take a chance on a safety component.
I have the same issue, my crusty '46 most parts original and don't seem to be practical to rebuild or improved.
